Swiggy Instamart Expands to 75 Cities, Claims 8-Minute Average Delivery in Metro Areas

Swiggy Instamart has announced its expansion to 75 cities, up from 50 a year ago, and is now claiming an 8-minute average delivery time in its top metro markets — a full 2 minutes faster than its own previous benchmark.

Operational Improvements

The 8-minute average is achieved through a combination of denser dark store networks (now at 650m spacing in major cities), AI-driven inventory prediction, and optimized delivery partner routing algorithms.

Category Expansion

Instamart has expanded beyond groceries and daily essentials to include electronics (delivery in under 20 minutes), medicines (24/7 in partnership with Apollo Pharmacy), and fresh meats and seafood (delivered in under 15 minutes).

Financial Performance

Swiggy reported that Instamart achieved contribution margin positivity in its top 15 cities in Q4 FY2026, and projects the full platform to reach contribution margin positivity by Q2 FY2027.

Competitive Landscape

Instamart's expansion comes as the quick-commerce market heats up, with Blinkit (Zomato) and Zepto both aggressively expanding. Analysts estimate the total market will reach $6 billion by 2027.
